On June 18th, influential rapper Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy, better known as XXXTentaction, was killed by a gunshot wound to the chest. While he was at a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, Florida, two masked men approached his vehicle, shot him multiple times and stole his bag. Only 20 years old, Onfroy's tragic death has shocked the world and effected many of his fans. 22 year old tattoo artist, Dedrick Devonshay Williams, one of the masked assailants was caught two days after the shooting. He is now being charged with first degree murder, while the hunt for the other killer continues.

Thousands of fans and supporters of XXXTentaction attended his public service at the Florida Panthers Stadium on June 27th. May he rest in peace.

    I've seen a lot of buzz about this, and obviously any murder is awful. But I was also a little surprised by the coverage because I thought rappers got killed all the time! Was that just in the 90s when I was a teenager...?

Essential Question: What role do drugs play in violence?       Unsurprisingly, a lot of serial killers were/ are avid drug users. Drugs make a lot of people violent, but for people with murderous desires it seems to send them over the edge and increase delusions. There is a huge drug problem that seems to be taking over the world at this point. It is a huge problem and is getting worse daily. In reading Serial Killers and Mass Murderers by Niguel Cawthorne, I learned that one of the most infamous killers named Charles Manson used LSD that enhanced his already demented mind, and Jeffrey Dahmer drank heavily and may have used other drugs. I began to wonder if drugs and alcohol had  a link to serial killers and their behaviors. I did some research and found that drug and alcohol abuse does in fact make people more violent.
